Frequently Asked Questions

  • We expect to have 14 participants, 2 canoe guides, 2 leadership facilitators and basecamp support personnel.

  • Young adults (between 18-35 years) who are navigating major life transitions, seeking clarity and confidence, or wanting to develop holistic leadership skills to drive meaningful change in the world.

  • You be given a full suggested kit list once selected. As an overview participants will need to bring their own clothes, outdoor kit, notepad and pen, wash gear and personal medicines.

We have links to charities that recycle outdoor clothing equipment if needed. Hopefully we’ve been clear throughout our communications; we don’t want your ability to come on the programme to be limited by your access to kit or funds so do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns about this: team@leadershipforgood.org

  • No. This programme is a collaborative, immersive experience. You have to be with us for the full duration.

  • As mixed as possible. We know from all our work that the more diverse the experience and perspective of participants the richer the conversations. We aim to take a mix of gender, background, nationality, outlook and personality preference in each group.

  • Participants must be over 18, and usually aged below 35.

  • All journeys are guided by highly trained, qualified leaders with advanced wilderness first-aid certification, rigorous safety protocols, and detailed risk assessments. Safety is a deep consideration for every aspect of the programme.

  • No. Participants are expected to pay a contribution to the programme, although most of it is subsidised through philanthropic funding. For detailed information about cost and funding, visit our How to apply page.

We are passionate about finance not being a barrier to participation. If you want to apply but cost is a hurdle, please contact us.

Expedition Questions

  • We will set off on our journey in 2 groups (each group = 7 participants, 1 canoe guide, 1 leadership facilitator). The journey involves 5 days of canoeing downriver and camping on the shores of the river.

We carry all our kit, equipment and food in the canoes. You will be expected to join in the cooking, camp set up, canoeing and leadership work.

  • Not at all. We will teach you the basics, we have qualified canoe guides in the team and we often hear that the people who’ve never done anything like this before get the most from the experience. We will provide all the canoeing and technical kit needed for the journey. If you have any questions or concerns, please do email us at team@leadershipforgood.org.
